We are offering this rare Büssing TU55 for sale. Its dimensions are L/W/H: 8.50/3.20/2.45 m, and it was manufactured in 1959. The permissible total weight is 7.5 tons. It is powered by a 5.4-liter 6-cylinder underfloor engine in combination with a 5-speed manual transmission; the 1st gear is not synchronized. The engine and transmission are in good condition. The engine has never been disassembled – as Büssing drivers always say: "You just have to make sure to refill the fuel and oil, and that's it!" The clutch was renewed in 1987. The valve clearance has been checked regularly.
This former German military bus was converted into a motorhome in the early 1970s. Since then, it has been owned by a family. In 1997, the body was completely refurbished with galvanized sheet metal, except for the roof. The body is in good condition (no rust), and the paint has a patina. Rust spots on the roof have always been treated; there is no rust-through. The chassis is in good condition, as are all mechanical functions, such as the compressed-air operated dual-circuit braking system, driveshaft, differential, etc. The vehicle has been continuously registered since 1982 and has been used mainly in the summer each year (approximately 1,500 to 5,000 km per year). Currently, the bus is registered as a classic vehicle (low tax/insurance).
The interior still largely reflects a functional motorhome layout from the 1970s, with an Electrolux refrigerator, Truma heater, two-burner gas stove, two fixed bunk beds in the rear, a table that can be converted into a double bed, and a combined WC (Thetford) and washroom.
